The Problem

Currently there is no single platform available to the yachting and boating community catering to the range of needs demanded. Added to this individual sectors are serviced by rudimentary sites with poor user interfaces that often have a limited range of services available.

There are also consistent pain points in finding services for the modern seafarer and vessel owner. Little quality assurance and security in the provision of services, and no consistent solution for connecting outside of sprawling and dis-organised social media forums or crew-finding sites.

Digitally, the industry is fractured, diffused, and not fit for purpose comparative to other sectors like motoring or property. It is frustrating to find what one needs, and little assurance or confidence is provided at a platform level.

Context & background

The leisure sailing and seafaring industry is vast, with the overall TAM in 2022 estimated to be £150bn USD with estimated CAGR growth of 7.5% through to 2033. The market remains buoyant and tends to be less affected by recessionary forces than most as it is populated by an affluent demographic with a substantial degree of resistance to economic downturn.

While the industry is one of growth and high-value digital services to support it are not currently available. Currently an opportunity to leverage and tap into this growth exists.

An emerging demographic of Gen-X, Millennials, and Gen Z exists and there is a visible shift in the expectation of, and demand for, quick and easy access to digitally qualified services. Specific services such as qualified crew recruitment, marine engineering & electrical services are hard to find, and all are astonishingly underserviced and accessible through digital platforms.
